No wine for you!

July 2nd, 2011

While at Trader Joe’s Jon was trying to find some wine for us.  He pointed at this one and asked Phoebe if we should get it.  She said “no… because it has fire!”

Oh well.

Meet BAD Daddy.  It is nighttime and bad daddy has made Phoebe “cri” (cry).

Bad daddy is now GOOD daddy and is back in Hollywood. Unfortunately, there has been an earthquake and the building where he works is tumbling down.

TV

January 5th, 2011

Although she has seen Dora often, Phoebe has started to really enjoy watching Dora cartoons. I used to hate this show and “Diego” as well because I would get so annoyed by the incessant pauses.
Example:

Dora: Say Buenos Dias!

(5 minutes later…)

Dora: Good! Now say Adios!

(5 minutes later…)

Dora: Good!

(and so on and so on)

Now that Phoebe has become a chatterbox and feels like replying it’s not so bad. The pauses are much shorter when the viewer is interacting I guess. I now think the volume of Dora’s voice is unnecessarily loud but maybe I’m just getting old.

Admittedly we get caught up in Phoebe’s world. Two days ago we were on our way to dinner. Phoebe was holding a little cupcake in her hand that Jon had given her just before we left. She was trying her hardest not to eat the cupcake until after dinner so she became very protective of it.

Phoebe: Mommy! I saw Swiper! He’s outside the window and wants to swipe my cupcake!
Me: Oh no!
Phoebe: Mommy! Daddy! Say “Swiper, no swiping!”
Me & Jon: Swiper, no swiping!
Phoebe: Say “Swiper, no swiping” four times!
Me & Jon: (loudly) Swiper, no swiping! Swiper, no swiping! Swiper, no swiping! Swiper, no swiping!

We’ll do anything for our baby. :)

Bubble Time!

April 20th, 2010

Phoebe hasn’t had a bubble bath in ages. We got her to agree to lots of things tonight with the condition that she would get a bubble bath. So we got little lip when we told her she had to go to the restroom without assistance because she clearly can, when we said we were making a quick trip to Trader Joe’s before aforementioned bath, and when we threatened cancellation of said bath if she didn’t behave. It’s great having something to hold over her head. :D

She’s really enjoying her bath. Downside? She’s going to ask for one every night for the next millenia. Oh well. Whatever makes my bebe happy!

Dolls are for sissies

January 5th, 2010

Jon’s grandmother gave Phoebe this cute Snow White doll for Christmas.  When Phoebe opened the gift she asked me to take it out of the box.  I struggled with all the tape and wires and eventually got the thing out only to have the doll be completely ignored.  Not much has changed since Christmas, she hasn’t given the doll a second glance.  Last night, however, Jon discovered that the doll talked if her hand was squeezed.  He held up the doll to Phoebe and said “Phoebe look, it talks!”  Jon squeezed her hand and the doll said something nice.  Phoebe stared at it for a long moment with a puzzled look on her face, grabbed the doll out of Jon’s hands, and proceeded to violently throw her against the cabinet in her room.  And that was that.

Portrait of Mami

Phoebe drew a picture of me today.  The resemblance is uncanny.

The Batarina

November 4th, 2009

This year Phoebe was a Batarina (half bat, half ballerina).  She really loved her costume especially because she’s all about being a ballerina right now.

Jon took this picture (of course).  I love that she’s in the air.  She’s really flying!!  Like a bat AND a ballerina. :)

My BFF

August 11th, 2009

I took this picture during a mother-daughter outing at Kidspace on Saturday afternoon.  As I sat there watching Phoebe enjoy her bag of potato chips (I was lucky enough to be handed the crumbs when she was done), I decided to take a few pictures of us together.  When I took this one, she asked to see it.  She looked at the screen, opened her eyes wide and said “Wow!  Friends!  Me and mami!”  It was the BEST DAY EVER!!!!!!!

Sleeping baby

June 30th, 2009

Once again I can’t believe how much my baby has grown.  Here she is with Jon when she was about 5 days old.

Here she is pretending to sleep on Jon’s lap.  She’s a tad bigger now.

I got it!

May 5th, 2009

On Saturday I went with Phoebe to Tiffany’s baby shower.  All the women were gathered around watching Tiffany open her gifts so Phoebe was understandably a little bored.  At some point she saw a spider coming down a wall so she asked me to kill it.  I told her it was too high for me to reach.  She would periodically ask again and I’d patiently tell her to try to forget about it (I know, impossible!).  A few presents later, I heard Jon’s mom exclaim “Phoebe, no!”.  It was then that I saw an object fly by me and land somewhere near Tiffany.  Turns out Phoebe got tired of asking me to kill the spider and took matters into her own hands by grabbing her own shoe and throwing it toward the spider.  When we all realized what she had done, we broke out into laughter.  Phoebe looked at me and said with much glee “I got it!”

I went from complete shock and embarrassment (why did Phoebe just throw a shoe across the room?) to almost being proud (she saved us from a deadly spider!).  To add to the humiliation, everyone asked me “Who taught her to throw her shoe at spiders?”  My reply: “My mom. Sometimes she’s not tall enough to reach them so she throws her shoe.” LOL

And now… a picture.
